Study Spaces

MCA Library study spaces provide users with an environment for reading, individual study, information use and academic work.

Library spaces are intended to support the academic activities of students, academic staff, researchers and other authorised users while maintaining a conducive environment for study and research.

Using the Library as a Study Space

The Library provides a place where users can consult information resources, undertake individual study and carry out academic work using the resources and facilities available at their campus Library.

Users are expected to use Library spaces responsibly and to respect the right of others to study in a suitable environment.

Study and Learning Activities

Individual Study

Use designated Library study areas for reading, revision, assignment preparation and other individual academic work.

Reading and Information Use

Read and consult Library collections and information resources within the Library in accordance with the applicable rules.

Research Work

Use appropriate Library spaces when searching, consulting and working with information for academic and research purposes.

Digital Study

Where facilities are available, use Library Internet and digital resources to support academic study and research.

A Conducive Study Environment

The Library is a shared academic environment. Users should therefore help maintain conditions that allow others to read, study and undertake research effectively.

  • Observe the Library's requirements concerning noise and maintain an appropriate study environment.
  • Keep mobile phones on silent mode while using Library study areas.
  • Do not engage in activities that unreasonably disturb other Library users.
  • Keep study areas clean and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Treat Library furniture, equipment and facilities with care.
  • Follow instructions provided by Library staff.

Using Library Resources While Studying

Users may consult Library resources within the Library. Different materials may have different conditions of use.

Reference materials and other designated resources intended for use within the Library must not be removed without authorisation.

Users should return or leave materials in the designated areas after use and should follow Library staff instructions concerning the handling of collections.

Collaborative Study

Some academic activities require students to work together. Collaborative study should take place only in spaces or under arrangements provided for that purpose.

Users working collaboratively must ensure that discussion and group activity do not disrupt other users who require a quiet study environment.

For information about the MCA Library's designated Collaborative Room, please consult the relevant Library service information.

Library Computers and Digital Access

Where computers and Internet facilities are provided, users may use them for legitimate academic and research purposes, subject to the applicable Library and College ICT requirements.

MCA's published Library regulations identify Internet service as an additional Library service. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="1"}

Accessibility and Consideration for Other Users

Library study environments should be accessible and respectful to all authorised users.

Users who require assistance in identifying a suitable Library facility should speak to Library staff or use the Ask a Librarian service.

Use of Library study spaces is subject to the Library's policies and rules.

  • Observe the Library's rules on noise and appropriate conduct.
  • Do not damage furniture, equipment or other Library property.
  • Do not leave valuable personal belongings unattended.
  • Do not reserve or occupy Library places in a manner that unfairly prevents other users from accessing study facilities.
